One litmus test researchers have devised seeks to distinguish between the two possibilities by noting whether or not the homosexual animal in question will still breed with a member of the opposite sex when it is likely to lead to offspring. Interestingly, researchers have noted that these sheep have a smaller hypothalamus than their heterosexually oriented counterparts. This is consistent with other research, which has documented the same phenomenon in human men.Dogs that exhibit same-sex attraction live long, happy, healthy lives, just like their heterosexually oriented counterparts. They want to sleep on the couch, eat everything in the house and catch that squirrel living in the tree outside. He just knows he feels warm fuzzy feelings for other male dogs or the reverse, in the case of females. Veterinarians can collect sperm manually and inseminate females, just as doctors do for infertile human couples.Just forget about it or celebrate it and move on. Trying to understand the sexuality of our dogs is probably impossible. Our dogs do not care what their sexual orientation is, and we should probably follow their lead. What about you? Thanks for checking out the site! Sorry, Mathieu, but some questions have complicated answers. Thanks for checking out the site, though! Not just mounting and humping, his wiener was out of the pocket and he was trying to line up for the goal. I was shocked because Ziggy was neutered when he was less than 6 months old and has never even humped a leg or stuffed animal. Can Dogs Be Gay? Plenty of dogs engage with sex or sex-like behavior with members of the same sex. The topic of homosexuality was a taboo even not so long ago.Only around 20 years back, in , Bruce Bagemihl published his book Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity , which unveiled that over species of vertebrates engage in homosexual behavior, while some scientists were still opposing the idea that homosexuality among animals is a common thing. Today it is no longer a revelation that many animals engage in different kinds of same-sex interactions: in some species only males, in others only females, and in many both do.As Joan Roughgarden, an ecologist and evolutionary biologist, concludes — homosexuality among animals shows great contextual variation [1]. A research conducted by Elizabeth Adkins-Regan shows that early neutering, spaying or hormonal treatment might change or even reverse sexual preferences in rats, hamsters, pigs, and possibly even dogs, so hormones could be one of the explanations of homosexual behavior in some animals [2].Other determinants of sexual preference to consider are mating system and social organization of the species. Same-sex behavior has long been noted in animals of many different species. In , the BBC reported on a pair of male Humboldt penguins who raise orphaned eggs together at a zoo in Kent, England. You may have even noticed your own pet cuddling up to a same-sex pal. But before we can determine whether pets can be gay, we first need to set the baseline for what is considered "gay" in the animal kingdom.Gay human beings are defined as being sexually attracted to people of the same sex. However, human sexual orientation is famously varied and fluid, and scientists who study the sexual activity of animals urge us not to compare our behavior to our pets' for a variety of reasons. Can dogs be gay? Can cats be gay? Here's another reason why it's tough to find the answer to these questions: for animals, what's presumed to be a mating behavior may be misinterpreted. For example, both male and female dogs will mount other dogs. While it is possible that some pets do this because they want to engage in sexual activities, there are many other reasons they may be performing that behavior. Also, don't forget that dogs will often mount humans and furniture as well. PetHelpful notes that male cats even neutered ones may also mount their pet parents and other household kitties to show who's boss.Neutering or spaying your pet will often help prevent mounting and other aggressive behaviors. Cats are also known for their grooming skills, and will often lick and sleep cuddled up to other cats. What may seem like sexual behavior to humans may very well be a part of social grooming. While there's been much speculation, there's no scientific evidence of various animals, especially house pets, being gay or not.He continues to say that being exclusively gay is "exceptionally rare" in the animal kingdom. So, if you're curious if your dog or cat is gay, know that there is currently no evidence to support this notion at least in terms that humans are used to defining homosexuality.Scientists often study two things when trying to determine whether animals can be gay: exclusivity and longevity. Exclusivity considers whether these animals are participating in sexual relations only with members of the same sex.Whenever a dog starts displaying homosexual behaviors, their owners will stop them or redirect their attention to something else. It is a known fact that other species showed homosexual tendencies and behaviors. However, we cannot completely define it through our definition of sexuality and identity. One of the best examples are the bonobo chimps. They have a love-your-neighbor philosophy taken to a whole new level. Bonobo chimps use intercourse as a way to lubricate social interactions. To be honest, there is no way of knowing if a dog has a long-term attraction towards other dogs of the same sex. They act on their impulses which are highly conditioned and have not been tested adequately. Categories Categories News Food Recall. Dog Adoption. Dog Breeding Responsible Breeding Tips.
